PRENATAL CARE, HOMEBIRTH, AND THE POSTPARTUM

No two women, pregnancy, labor, birth, or baby is identical: your care is uniquely designed to meet your needs and your hopes. Fully informed, you make choices that are right for you and your family. Supported by your midwives and guided by your intuition, we create space for exploration around pregnancy, preparing for birth, and the initiation into motherhood.

COMPREHENSIVE PRENATAL CARE: includes an initial health history, emotional biography, nutritional assessment, and lab work. Each appointment includes a thorough evaluation of mom and baby and an educational component. Discussions stem from readings, inquiries, and your unfolding journey through pregnancy.

Appointments are scheduled:*

  • Every 4 weeks until 28 weeks
  • Every 2 weeks from 28-36 weeks
  • Weekly from 36 weeks until birth

LABOR AND HOMEBIRTH: On-call 24-hours a day to offer continuous labor support and facilitate your birth. The midwives remain in your home for several hours after your birth to ease your transition, monitor signs of wellness, and celebrate your new baby.

POSTPARTUM: Well woman and well baby care continues for 6 weeks after your birth. Care includes: full checkups of mom and baby, breastfeeding and new family support, fertility awareness or birth control counseling and pap smears as indicated.

*Our philosophy of holistic care manages discomforts and minor complications with nutrition, exercise, mindfulness practice, herbs, homeopathics, flower essences, and other alternative modalities for healing.

PLACENTA MEDICINE

Many consider the placenta to be a powerful and sacred medicine full of life force. Placenta medicine has been known to ward off the blues and postpartum depression, shorten bleeding time, restore and balance hormones, nourish the blood, replenish depleted iron, increase energy, boost immunity, enhance milk production, and generally reduce overall recovery time from labor and birth.

Using the Traditional Chinese Medicine Method, the placenta is steamed, dried, ground, and encapsulated. A placenta makes 150-250 capsules that can be used in the postpartum, during transitional times, and in menopause. Medicinal tincture, placenta prints, and cord keepsakes can also be created.

Placenta medicine is a lovely way to honor and preserve the energetic nature of the organ that nourished your baby in the womb.
